Congilio, Corey - 50 Texas Blues Licks You Must Know

This is great--advanced beginner to advanced
Cory does a really good job here--his video presentation is interesting, upbeat, and he seems really "into" giving a great series of lessons. I've seen a lot of Guitar videos and this is one of the best--from the first examples, i'm learning new licks or relearning licks the "right way". Highly recommended for anyone from advanced beginner who loves blues and guitar and is wondering what to do next with the pentatonic scale. So many times a video will show you a lick, but it's sort of a cold presentation--not here--Cory just seems like a great guy who loves his subject. Moreover, the Guitar Lab series has a lot of support material, including PDFs of all licks plus a MIDI player that demonstrates the timing of the notes. But the best part is Cory's teaching--he's a natural and I recommend this video for anyone who wants to get the low down on Freddie King, SRV, the Rev. Billy G., Johnny Winter...there's a lot here. I like this video over other videos that have 100-200 licks since...

Boston Blackie - Volume 01

Poor quality video
I bought this and volumes 2-4 for my dad who's a Boston Blackie fan. Unfortunately, the quality of the video is poor. It is likely a public domain copy dubbed to disc. It's not restored or improved in any way and it's not uncommon for the DVD to just stop and start. It could be the player, but the fact the picture quality is so poor, it's not worth the viewing.

oldie but goodie
from the old days, when they could cram an entire crime drama, into 25 minutes of TV. The film quality is rough at times, but crime drama lovers will be glad this series got on discs.

Boston Blackie with Kent Taylor Volume 1
Boston Blackie defined cool long before Robert Michum in Thunder Road and Steve McQueen a generation later. With his dog Whitey (in some episodes) and girlfriend Mary and always driving a full custom convertible, he cruises greater LA and invariably saves the day. A great period piece.

The Big Bang Theory (Seasons 1-5) - 10-Blu-Ray Disc Box Set ( The Big Bang Theory - Seasons 1-5 ) ( The Big Bang Theory - Seasons One to Five ) [ Blu-Ray, Reg.A/B/C Import - United Kingdom ]

Just ignore those bad reviews... This set is flawless!
I got my blu-ray set yesterday and with all those negative reviews I was anxious to test them out. I was worried because I had seen reviews saying that the set was pirated (bootleg) and that they would not work in anything except a region-free blu-ray player, and blah, blah, blah. THIS SET IS BRAND-NEW!!! IT IS NOT PIRATED AND IT WORKS FINE IN A U.S. REGION BLU-RAY PLAYER!!! And to be honest, my blu-ray player is at least 3 years old...and it probably hasn't been updated in a year...Whatever the blu-rays work and the picture looks great. I would highly recommend this seller (a2z Blu Ray) and this set to anyone. It was an awesome deal! $65.00 for the first 5 seasons...that easily would've been $100 if purchased separately. If I find anything wrong with it by the time I make it through my 5 season binge this weekend I'll update my review but I doubt I will find anything.

Absolutely livid
I purchased this DVD set for my boyfriend for Christmas. He was incredibly excited and we couldn't wait to watch them. Well, lo and behold, the disks are pirated. You can't tell unless you look closely but the printing isn't very good and the disks have a lot of problems when you try to watch. If it wasn't for the fact that he so desperately wanted these we'd return them but I guess we'll just suffer through the problems...

Beware not original discs. Poor copies
My wife purchased this as a gift and was so looking forward to enjoying them. Right off the bat the picture quality is grainy and not sharp. We didn't even bother to watch pass the luminous fish episode in season one as there were at lease three areas of no sound for 10 secs. Do not buy and I would think amazon should listen to these comments as selling pirated DVDs is illegal!

Walkout

QUE VIVA LA RAZA! 'Iron Jawed Angels' With Salsa!
My introduction to the social activism of young Latinos during the Civil Rights Era came via a C-Span promotion of a book entitled "We Were There, Too", which features stories about real-life teenagers who helped shape the course of American History during various eras.
This HBO film, which is 2006's answer to "Iron Jawed Angels", fleshes out the characters involved, many of whom take part in the reenactment of their story.
It is early 1968 in East Los Angeles, California. Young Paula Crisostomo (a beauteous, effervescent, and charismatic Alexa Vega) and honor student at the predominantly Chicano Abraham Lincoln High School, observes the indignities imposed upon her fellow students by condescending White school authorities. Students are denied access to the school restrooms at certain times of the school day, but are punished for going to the bathroom behind the bushes of the campus or on grilles in the pavement. They receive corporal punishment for speaking Spanish in...

Inspiring and necessary!
With so many negative role models in the media and real life for minority children, this film exposes society to a truly inspiring idea--the disenfranchised CAN succeed in mainstream America! "Walkout" is an amazing piece of history that should be required viewing for everyone, from Congress trying to legislate immigration reform to impoverished high school students who have never thought of a way up and out in life. Thank you, HBO, for championing this project and giving our society this authentic and moving testament to the power of education.

Powerful lesson
I began showing this to my Spanish classes as soon as it came out. In fact, one of my Mexican-American students told me about it (gracias Ian!). I teach in an urban school with a diverse population. Social justice is a huge issue in our building and community. I have been amazed at how much this film has impacted my students. They connected deeply with the students in the film. There are so many discussion topics that came out of the film: inequality, poverty, heritage languages, student activism, cultural chasms, the connection to the civil rights movement, I could go on. I urge everyone to watch this film. I encourage my fellow teachers to incorporate this film into their curriculum. And you don't have to be from an urban area to feel the power of the inequalities in the film or be Latino to feel the pride of these students. It gives me chills everytime I hear a student call "Walkout!" or "Viva la Raza" or "Chicano Power!"

Live in Chicago

Dissapointed
As a life long Wanda Jackson fan (and I'm only 32) I could not wait to own this DVD. Sadly, it's a disappointment. My biggest problem with this DVD is the audio. Wanda comes in loud and clear (and sounds great, as always) but the band is awful. I know this band can rock right along with Wanda, but for some reason, the audio on this DVD is so low that it ruined the whole show for me. I think if the band/audience audio was enhanced, it would be a pretty good DVD, but with the low sound, it's kind of hard to get into it. A release like this was something I have been waiting on forever. I wish whoever filmed the show took notice of the audio. I give this DVD 3 stars simply because it's Wanda Jackson...the Queen of Rock n Roll. If you have never been to a Wanda Jackson show, do yourself a favor and go! Don't rely on this DVD. If you want to really hear Wanda Jackson LIVE (with great audio) I'd recommend "Wanda Jackson: Live and Still Kickin'" or Wanda Jackson "Live at Mr. Lucky's."...

Having seen Wanda Jackson in Adelaide, South Australia at the "Gov",I really wanted this DVD to be as good as her gig.And it is!! Amazing performance both here (in Chicago) and live (for me) in Adelaide. What a voice, can't believe how good it is for a lady born in in 1937!! Maybe she doesn't move around on stage as much as earlier years, but this lady still ROCKS big time.Hard to believe that none of her hits reached the Top Twenty in the US, but in Australia "Let's Have a Party" made it to #3 in January '61 and stayed in the top 10 for 8 weeks.Simply put, she's a living legend.Rick Drewer, Adelaide,South Australia

A Vast and Fiendish Plot [HD]

BBC Comes To America With This Impressively Styled Crime Drama Set In 1860's New York
One of the most ambitious new shows to be produced by the BBC is actually set on American soil. What's up with that? And "Copper" arrives with one of the season's most impressive pedigrees! Oscar winner Barry Levinson (6 total nominations with "Rain Man" earning him a Best Director prize) and Tom Fontana (3 Emmy wins for writing on "St. Elsewhere" and "Homicide: Life on the Streets") are the creative forces behind the series set in New York's immigrant neighborhood of Five Points. Set shortly after the Civil War, "Copper" showcases the unruly lawlessness that runs rampant in a city struggling to define itself. The streets are filled with murder, illicit sex, and unchecked racism. At the same time, the wealthy are embroiled in political scandal, dubious business dealings, and an equal proportion of unqualified racism. Straddling these two worlds is Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones in a star making role), a good cop who's not above coloring outside of the lines to pursue the truth or...

A Period Piece with Stylized Grit!
NO SPOILERS:

As K. Harris did the heavy lifting. I can provide a more granular viewpoint re: what I like about Copper.

While some "poetic license" has to be allowed, as a student of history, BBC America nailed it! The time period has been covered before in the big budget "Gangs of New York" who took somewhat more of a "poetic license" than BBC America.

The Irish as a growing minority, the winding down of the Civil War, Tammany Hall, The integration of Blacks, the role of woman, the gap between rich and poor (& the fostering of well-known industrial titans) and general cleanliness (it might be a small thing, though look at the dirt caked nails of some of the main characters) are all topics prevalent to the time period.

Copper is both well-acted and well scripted. Franka Potente stands out with her best performance since "Run Lola Run."

The storyline itself might only merit a *4 rating, though historical accuracy bumps Copper up...

Copper - It's pure gold!
Set in the gritty Five Points area of New York during the Civil War, Copper follows Det.Kevin Corcoran, an Irish American 'copper', as he solves crimes with nothing more than guts, brains and the clumsy tools of the day. Set against the backdrop of his own missing wife and murdered daughter, it's a dark and foreboding angst-fest for all. Corcoran's urge to champion every underdog continually undermines his career, and he has as many enemies on the police force as he does friends in the filthy underground he polices. Some people may be surprised or offended at some things depicted in this show - including a child prostitute 'married' at the age of ten against her will, and later imprisoned in a brothel to serve a 'certain kind of gentleman'. Child actress Kiara Glasco plays Annie Reilly, the child prostitute, and her performance is simultaneously electrifying and disturbing. Even seeing a child her age uttering the lines she's given in the show is enough to sometimes turn the...

Puccini: Tosca [Blu-ray]

Powerful performance with a cast that's hard to beat
In terms of concept, design and staging, there is nothing particularly innovative, imaginative, original or even too exciting about Jonathan Kent's direction for this 2011 Royal Opera House production of Tosca. It adheres to the period locations and action as they are laid out in the original libretto, each of the three acts recognisably taking place in specific locations in Rome - Act 1 in the church of Sant' Andrea, Act 2 in the Palazzo Farnese, Act 3 on top of the Castel Sant' Angelo - actual locations that have been used in the past for filmed versions of Puccini's opera. If there's little that is striking about the stage designs, which are functional at best, Kent stages the dramatic action within them to the full extent of the verismo realism that the opera calls out for. What distinguishes a good traditional production of Tosca from all the others however, and what makes this Royal Opera House production something special, is the casting and the ability of the performers to...

A star-studied presentation that fully deserves a starry rating
This recording of Tosca created from performances on July 14 and 17 in 2011 brings together artists of considerable renown for a short run. These are Angela Gheorghiu as Tosca, Jonas Kaufmann as Cavaradossi and Bryn Terfel as Scarpia. To these must be added the considerable expertise of the conductor, Antonio Pappano. The production by Jonathan Kent has become a staple fixture in the Royal Opera repertoire and is unashamedly `traditional' in its concept.

The combination of such talents raised expectations that something very special could be achieved. As one who has a number of recordings by all of these artists, I can honestly state that, in my opinion, none of them has delivered anything finer individually and that this combination has resulted in a recording of Tosca that is gripping from start to finish and may well have exceeded even the most optimistic hopes of all concerned.

It must be made clear from the start that this is certainly not the performance...

The best vocal characterisation of Floria Tosca on record!
Since I love Puccini's music a lot, and Tosca particularly so, I have gathered at home quite a collection of older recordings and more recent DVDs with the full opera. I have also seen it performed on stage a half dozen times. Angela Gheorghiu accomplishes a truly outstanding rendition of Floria Tosca, clearly surpassing in musicianship and vocal characterization older renditions by Callas (I have in mind the Callas- Di Stefano disc), Tebaldi (both Tebaldi - del Monaco disc and Tebaldi - Di Stefano), Kabaivanska (Kabaivanska - Domingo disc), L. Price (Price - Corelli disc), S. Verrett (Verrett - Pavarotti disc) and M. Freni (Freni - Pavarotti disc).

I won't bother enumerating the more contemporary recordings (Cedolins, Magee), because they are so far behind in quality that they will soon be forgotten.

As if Gheorghiu's performance wasn't enough of a marvel, this recording also benefits from a strong Cavaradossi (Kaufmann) and a very distinctive Scarpia (Bryn...

Live at the Bowl '68

The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl, Classic Restored!
When The Doors were planning what to do for the Hollywood Bowl show in 1968 Ray Manzarek floated out the idea of coming out in Kabuki masks and Japanese robes. Alternatively, Jim Morrison, who was already showing the disillusionment of being a rock star, said "just give me my microphone, and do whatever you want to do." Maybe if Morrison had been more receptive to the idea and they had gone through with it, the costumes would have distracted them from giving one of the best concerts of their career, and it was filmed.

"Live at the Bowl `68" shows The Doors at the height of their musical prowess and their career. The summer before "Light My Fire" had made The Doors a nationally known act when it hit number one on Billboard's charts. Later in July of 1968 "Hello, I Love You" would do the same, and in September of 1968 they flew to Europe on what would become their one European tour. The Hollywood Bowl show was to be a celebration of The Doors and it was a hometown audience...

DVD review from an owner....WOW!
Now THIS is the way to release a classic concert....
1) you retrieve all the existing elements and songs
2) you get a modern crew to edit the footage and clean up the sound
3) you present it in brilliant widescreen!

AND... in the value for money department
bonus feature "Echoes Of the Bowl" on the history of the Hollywood Bowl and the Doors talking about playing there
bonus feature about the event itself from the participants not only the Doors but the Chambers Brothers who opened
another bonus feature "Reworking the Doors" talking about the technical achievement in fixing the old sound and video etc..
and BONUS performances from TV shows as well as a music video....

This is just a brilliant way to bring a treasure from the glorious 60's Rock Icons back to life in all the best ways... heck just the concert redone would have been enough but all the bonus features are something we used to only get for something like Gone With the...

Revisiting Rock History
If you're into classic rock, then who doesn't appreciate - if not love - The Doors and their contribution to the soundtrack of our youth? Their music is still burned into our minds and their live performances are the stuff of legend. To that point, The Doors supplied plenty of post-Independence Day fireworks on July 5, 1968 when the legendary quartet played the Hollywood Bowl, a concert that is considered to be the band's finest on film. For the first time, the film from the historic performance has been painstakingly restored using the original camera negatives and the audio has been remixed and mastered from original multi-tracks by the group's engineer Bruce Botnick. This new restoration offers a stunning visual upgrade from earlier versions and will give fans the closest experience to being there live alongside Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, who opined, "You can hear it as if you were at the Hollywood Bowl, on stage with us."

Nik Wallenda Beyond Niagara: Zip Line, Ferris Wheel Walk

Love it!
Not good for the nerves, but great entertainment - watched through my fingers. The Grand Canyon walk brought me here ... left-over adrenalin needing some kind of explanation for this profession. Fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the preparation that goes into these events.

Science meets Human Interest
I was living in Sarasota when Karl Wallenda fell in Puerto Rico and heard from early on about the problem with the rigging. It was satisfying to see that the theory was proven out. No more doubt about it. Very creative way to reproduce the conditions, too. The Puerto Rico walk with Nik and Delilah was very touching. This whole series captures a snapshot of what life is like behind the scenes for a Guinness World Record breaker. The Science Channel has done a wonderful job of portraying the science behind the stunts as well as including the human interest stories that accompany this likable family.

welcome tattoo: Apprentice Training Series - Disk 1

If you have the Book basic fundamentals of tatto you dont need this !
It was pretty much a recap of the book I think most of the running time is showing you how to tear down & rebuild a coil machine. If you use Rotary too bad nothing on that also really no info on needle depth like they say other than watch your needle depth. Nothing on tech, linework save your money & apply it to the Dean Deakyne videos,
Id start off w/ the intro to color then the intro to blk & grey ( the color does go into fading out ) & has alittle more tips the Dean deakyne videos are setup for the absolute begginner in depth linework, needledepth, color, bloodline or greyline. just dont waste your money on this video you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED

It's okay - nothing new and very fundamental...
nothing new in a beginer tattoo book or DVD... price is good though... Anyhow, no substitute, really, for an apprenticeship... just some basic information that most artists will have a different spin or take on once you start as an apprentice....

excellent for anyone new to tattoo

Nightmare Inn

Five Episodes to Give You Goosebumps!
Do you remember the Goosebumps books and TV series from the 1990s from horror mastermind R.L. Stine? Well, his new series The Haunting Hour debuted in 2010 on The Hub cable channel based upon his The Haunting Hour book, a collection of short stories.

I've been a die-hard R.L. Stine fan since I was a kid, but I don't get The Hub channel, so I patiently waited for the DVDs to be released! The Haunting Hour follows the typical 22 minutes length per episode, but unlike the Goosebumps series, this series has a bigger budget and better acting. The special effects are much better this time around and the stories are much darker.

In the two-part premiere Really You, Lilly (played by Bailee Madison) is a spoiled girl, always getting what she wants from her parents, especially from her dear old dad. What she wants now is the Really You life-size doll, in which her parents give in and get it for her. Strange things begin happening and Lilly suspects her doll is responsible...

Beyond GOOSEBUMPS
Inspired by a couple of short story collections (THE HAUNTING HOUR and NIGHTMARE HOUR) by R.L.Stine, THE HAUNTING HOUR: THE SERIES is similar to Stine's mid-1990's series, GOOSEBUMPS. However, THE HAUNTING HOUR is much darker in tone and content and the production values are a couple notches above those of GOOSEBUMPS. Volume 1 contains five episodes from the series. Each episode is about 22 minutes in length, including the show intro and the credits. The episodes are:

"Really You, Parts 1 & 2" - Lilly is a spoiled girl who has always gotten everything she wants and has her father wrapped around her finger. Her latest request and gift is a special life-sized "Really You" doll. The doll Lilly receives is named Lilly D. Lilly D looks like a giant plastic replica of Lilly herself. At first, Lilly fawns all over the doll. Her parents buy matching clothes for Lilly and Lilly D. Lilly's spoiled behavior worsens as she flaunts her new found "wealth" at her friends. But then, Lilly...

A nice collection of creepy stories geared towards elementary-middle grade
My eight-year-old daughter loves reading R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series and was excited to watch this show when she came across the DVD at the public library. This is Volume One of The Haunting Hour series and contains four episodes, one of which is shown in two parts:

Really You (Parts 1 and 2) - a spoiled young girl (portrayed by Bailee Madison) demands her father buy her a life-sized doll to be a companion/friend. When the doll arrives, the girl finds her life turned topsy turvy as the doll harbors an evil agenda that could place the girl's very life at stake.

The Dead Body - a teenager finds school life a living hell when he is the target of bullies. Then he meets a mysterious new kid who promises to get even with the bullies on his behalf. Little does the boy know that the new kid isn't what he appears to be and that payment for services rendered might be a little too costly!

A Creature Was Stirring - Timmy gets a Christmas present that turns out...

Mates Of State: Two Of Us

Enjoyable look into the life....
My girlfriend and I picked up this DVD when we saw Mates of State play in summer of 2008.
It was very enjoyable for the kind of hardcore fan that goes to concerts and owns the albums,
but would drag and be kind of boring for those that don't love Mates of State already.

It is not a good introduction to the band; it is the kind of masturbatory band documentary
aimed at existing fans. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Mmhmm
It's a great DVD, and definitely takes a real fan to enjoy. Like one who's got/ or intends to listen to ALL of their recordings, and would advertise for them.

And also, it says at the top of this webpage that it's only compatible in US/Canada. That's a lie; it's ALL REGION COMPATIBLE (yes, they REALLY exist). I found this a little insulting to MoS since they promote world peace, and saying they produce materials that are available exclusively to one part of the world sullies what should be an absolute clean reputation.

Psych: The Complete Sixth Season

Shout! Shout! Let it all out....
This is one of the most entertaining shows on the air. No it wont change your life. No it wont launch you into a paradoxical tirade about life the universe and everything. What it will do is make you laugh, snort, chuckle, groan and giggle. Shawn and Gus are 2 of the most endearing characters around. They have good hearts and are always trying to do good (mostly). I am constantly amazed at how silly this show can be and then turn around and have me on the edge of my seat wondering how they are going to get out of the mess they've gotten themselves into. I marvel at how touching it can be too, (especially the scenes with Shawn's mom and the ones with Juliet) and then slap me in the face with some random ridiculous '80's reference that makes me glad that my personal memories of that time have been shoved back to the far reaches of my mind! Season 6, as it is so far, has been all of these things and more. The relationships have grown (or groan, I've heard it both ways!) so as to...

Crush on Gus and Shawn
This is one of those series that is just fun--plain and simple. The premise doesn't change but the writing is just so engaging and hilarious that you can watch the same premise over and over and not feel cheated. The antics Gus and Shawn get into and the dialogue exchanges are HILARIOUS. There are SO many quotable lines. Plus, the supporting characters are just supreme. Lassie and the dad are adorable (however, the chief and juliet are a little two-dimensional for my taste).

I totally recommend this season (one of the best) and series to anyone who is looking for something to watch. It isn't earth shattering or "stop the presses" must see, but simply delightful and worth a watch.

Wait for iiiiiittt!
I don't know how to explain the enjoyment I receive from this show; but suffice it to say that it is immence. I currently own all five of the available seasons on dvd and am waiting very impatiently for season six. For those of you who haven't seen any of the past episodes; well then you are probably not reading any of these reviews anyway, the show is just freaking fun. And you don't know how much you've missed even when you have seen the shows untill you watch them again. You'll pick up lots of smart-aleck comments, 80's references, and hilarious quips that you didn't get the first time around. The relationship between the people in Psych is one of a tightly knit family. You get invested in their lives; but it's all just for fun!! You think Trekki's are bad, you ain't seen nothing till you've been around a bunch of "Psycho's"!

So Classic Album

The Classic Albums series is in need of a boost.
This is a documentary that could have been twice the length that it was because of the fact that the subject matter seems so interesting and so vital to a lot of music fans. I think that any production company or individual who is intending to put together a music documentary needs to first view the recent George Harrison film "Living in the Material World" as an example of what can be done with the format. I believe that if a person, a place, or a record album are interesting enough to have its story told on film then it should be told for all its worth. Don't cut corners, don't omit, and don't edit out whole blocks of subject matter because of time or budget "restraints". Don't sell the art, or the audience, short.

In the case of the Classic Albums take on Peter Gabriel's "So" you have yet another production from Eagle Rock/Isis Productions that leaves the viewer wanting more. There are some glaring omissions in terms of the cast of characters. Most notably a handful of...

Interesting review, great footage, great interviews...but where is the Blu?
The interviews take a great in-depth look at each song from So, from Peter, other musicians, editors, collaborators, producers, etc. In fact, I loved that there were no interviews (as is common on VH1 and every other station nowadays) from comedians and "celebrities". Someone cares what the guy from Full House thinks of Sledgehammer? Anyway, not in this review thankfully. These interviews lend great hand to the understanding of this album, and why it took a full year to complete.

There is also great footage of videos and concerts, which are essential to a review such as this. However, there is where this Blu-Ray falls flat. While the quality of the interview segments are perfect, the quality of the non-interview footage is VHS quality. I literally have better quality footage in my personal collection of this same material. Not getting better sources is corner cutting that is unacceptable when offering a Blu-Ray. While I understand this old footage won't look perfect, it was...

The album that too over a year to produce get's "Cassic Albums" treatment; DVD has 35 minutes of bonus footage
My fellow reviewer, Khonsu, has written a fairly lengthy, and detailed, review of this "episode" in the ongoing "Classic Albums" series of documentaries from Eagle Vision, each of which concentrates on the individual songs on a classic album, so I won't repeat what he has written but - hopefully - add to the info he has provided.

First, I have to admit that I like Peter Gabriel and his music but I can't say I'm a compulsive fan. I find the Classic Albums series informative and helpful since it helps me understand all the work - in this case over a year - to put a single 45-minute album together. Using new interviews with many involved in the project - most importantly the artist, the producer and the sound engineer - plus archival "music videos" to cover the album in under an hour (these were made for broadcast on VH1 before home video release), I learn a lot. The interviews, other than those noted above, depend- of course - on access to them. In this case we get Laurie...

Brutal Honesty of Saving Addicts Without Hollywood Flair
*** Parental Warning ***
Drug Use, Some Language, Adult Subjects

This is an incredible look into the reality of the entire treatment process of addiction, from intervention to aftervention. Kristina Wandzilak is not afraid to state the truth not only to the addicts that she is working with, but also all of the others involved. She also shows no fear in sharing a personal touch by stating her own personal experiences both past and present that are relevant to saving addicts as well as the family systems that unknowingly enable addiction to continue. This is a must see informative show for anyone who has an addict in their life, is working in addiction therapy, or who is an addict themselves who needs a dose of truth from a woman who is not afraid to share the depths of the addiction, point out cycles of dysfunction, and stare pain in the face to find the beauty that lies in recovery.

Love
I love Kristina and her blunt approach. I also love the lack of drama and the addicts participating in their own interventions.

Love this Show!
This show is, well...addicting! And this is coming from someone who rarely watches TV. Kristina really makes the show even more interesting, because she is smart, honest, direct, caring, and she's also strong. I'm happy to see that she's doing what she's doing.

Nova: Forensics on Trial

Great documentary
This film is a few years old, so some things have definitely changed. Disregarding that however, this is an excellently made film.

Illustrates good and bad of forensic technology
A good example of critical thinking about forensic technology. Shows well the issues and things that can, and do, go wrong when technology is applied by those who do not truly understand it. Also shows what is necessary for forensics to move toward in order to prevent such misapplications. Very entertaining and up to the usual standards for NOVA investigations.

Neil Young Journeys

A concert/documentary and so much more (with 70+ minutes of "conversation" as bonuses.
Fall 2012 is the "season of the Young" (well Neil Young, anyway), and I seem to be immersed in "things Young", going through his new autobiography in both hardbound book and the audiobook version (read by Keith Carradine). Now comes this Bluray disc of the 2012 feature film/concert documentary "Neil Young Journeys", directed by Jonathan Demme. This is either the third, or fifth (depending on how you define "film") Demme/Young film and - as Demme points out in the bonus features - completely different from the previous projects. And it's wonderful.

The majority of the 89-minutes consists of Young performing during the last two nights of his "Le Noise" solo tour at the historic Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada (where Young was born). But Demme wanted to show more about Young so he rented a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria (Young is a car buff as well as a huge Lionel train fan) and had him start in Omemee, the town in northern Ontario where Young grew up (they moved from Toronto early...

Five Other Fans and Me
I recently rushed to a small inner city cinema in Melbourne to see the Saturday midday screening of "Neil Young Journeys". Joining me were five others - and we all joked about how we couldn't understand why the cinema wasn't full!!

This movie is brilliant. We get to be with Neil as he rambles around "a town in north Ontario" and gain a glimpse into his younger days. We are right on stage as he takes us through song after memorable song from all stages of his career - oh the playing. Jonathon Demme's direction is superb - you are on a journey into the theatre and on to the stage.

Neil plays with such power and passion - be warned about the impact of those first chords of "Ohio" - and also sweetness and respect for his subject matter.

I've got to have this DVD

Journey Is Another Neil Young/Demme Classic!

Nova: Secrets of the Viking Sword

Too brief on important points
While a good production, I felt the emphasis was too much on some of the showy bits, like the reenactors bashing away. The too brief part by the sword master could have been expanded. The descriptions by the sword smith were great and very illustrative. But for me, crucial technical questions like what the crucible was made of and exactly how they achieved 3000' F when the Romans didn't would have really improved it for me. Also, an explanation of why the katana needed multiple layers of steel and why this Viking didn't would also have been a great comparative analysis.
Worth viewing though, and glad I bought it but it left several questions unanswered.

A tale of two swords.
This DVD, "Secrets Of The Viking Sword", has two currents working simultaneously through it. Firstly, there is the story of Middle Ages swords marked "ULFBERHT" which are made of steel so advanced for the time that modern experts are shocked by their quality. Secondly, there is the story of modern blacksmith Richard Furrer who will attempt to make a sword like the ULFBERHT swords using old technology and methods to discover the secret of how the originals were made.

The DVD covers the Viking age as well as the type of swords used in northern Europe during the time the ULFBERHT swords were made. Compared to the ULFBERHT swords, other swords made during this time period consist of steel that is full of impurities and have little carbon making them brittle and prone to breaking in battle. There are discussions and demonstrations of fighting techniques and weaponry by modern experts of ancient weaponry to explain for the viewer why these swords were so advanced compared to...

Could be better.
This DVD is only about one Viking sword, the Ulfberth.
The narrator states, that the crucible methode used to make that steel, was highly superior to the pattern welding of other Viking swords. I strongly doubt that! The Viking sword, in difference to roman gladius, japanese Katana and crussader swords, had a flexible blade, which I don't think can be achieved by using only one single steel! Modern pattern welded replicas of Viking swords, show their vast superiority to swords of earlier or later periods!

It would have been better to make a program about the different types of Viking swords and different forging technics, and to compare different modern accurate replicas in tests.

Jake & The Never Land Pirates: Jake Saves Bucky

"What's that Bucky? You've been captured? In the well? Where?"
Actually, Bucky is an animated ship and does not talk, much less bark in astonishing code language, but the truth is that Bucky is taken by Captain Hook from Jake and the Never Land Pirates in the new DVD, Jake Saves Bucky. It's especially notable for the re-appearance of Peter Pan to help in the rescue. This is a three-segment story edited together as a "Full Length Adventure."

Rounding out the DVD disc are eight segments, two of which make up a standard Disney Junior half hour show:

- Peter's Musical Pipes
- The Never Night Star
- Captain Hook's Hooks
- Mr Smee's Pet
- Race Around Rock!
- Captain Hook is Missing! (he's not in the well, either)
- Captain Hook's Lagoon
- Undersea Bucky

Designed for the preschooler, Jake and the Never Land Pirates is much like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Dora the Explorer, as the characters often ask the viewers to help out, and in this case, earn onscreen coins as rewards...

Kids like it, but found it emotional
My kids (3 1/2 year old girl, 2 year old boy) LOVE Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Since they were requesting to watch the one DVD we owned just about ever day, I decided to surprise them and get another DVD when this was on a promotion on Amazon. They quite liked it, but my 3 1/2 year old daughter got very emotional while watching this. The plotline for this movie is that Captain Hook tricks Jake and his friends and as a result takes Bucky, their ship, who is their best friend. Jake and his friends get very upset, and sing a song about losing their best friend - which caused my daughter to burst into tears and get very upset (all 4 times she has watched the movie). I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing - as I sort of enjoy crying at sad movies myself, but just something to be aware of. If you plan to pop this in the DVD player and then run to the other room and make dinner, your kid may burst into tears while you're in the kitchen...

A Fun Movie!
My kids have really come to like this series. Not only does it have great music, but the stories are fun and lively too. From a parent's perspective, I have to say that I love some of the messages that are shared within the series. Underlying messages of friendship and teamwork are things that I always try and have my daughters show in their daily lives, so anything that can reinforce this (without me telling them) is always a good thing in my book. This was a great movie (ans some great episodes as well), and when my kids saw that it was coming out on DVD they hoped that we would get it for our collection. Though I was used to the shorter shows, they did a great job on this movie and the songs are just as good as you find in the regular series as well. I will also put a plug in for the bonus feature on this DVD as your kids will love singing along playing Pirate-oke!

Alcatraz: The Complete Series [Blu-ray]

Ahh, Fox. Will you EVER give a high-concept show a chance again?
While this is a review for the first and, sadly, the only season of J.J. Abrams' ALCATRAZ, this will also be, in part, a rant against Fox Broadcasting and how quickly they forgot their roots.

Let's begin with the review though. First, a quick rundown of the plot: Back in March of 1963, Alcatraz officially closed. All the prisoners were transferred to other prisons. This is the official story, but it's not the way it happened. In actuality, 256 inmates of Alcatraz as well as 46 guards mysteriously vanished and no one knows where... until now, that is. Mysterious and shadowy Federal Agent Emerson Hauser (the terrifically underrated Sam Neill) appears in San Francisco just around the time that our main protagonist SFPD Detective Rebecca Madsen (the talented and lovely Sarah Jones, who doesn't have a lot of credits to her name) loses her partner to a fleeing suspect. Madsen comes into direct contact and conflict with what Agent Hauser is trying to do when two men are murdered...

Real Ghosts of Flesh and Blood...
The Fox midseason replacement TV series "Alcatraz" is built around the fascinating premise that the 1963 closure of the notorious federal prison was a cover story for the sudden and unexplained disappearance of the inmates and their guards. San Francisco police detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) becomes involved in the mystery when her partner is killed by a man who is supposed to be dead, one of the missing "63's". Rebecca is recruited into a secretive federal task force run by FBI agent Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill), formerly an Alcatraz guard and now in search of the former inmates as they resurface in modern-day San Francisco to resume their criminal careers, mysteriously unaged and still fully lethal.

The story is told on parallel tracks, as Hauser, Rebecca, and Rebecca's unlikely partner Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto (Jorge Garcia) pursue the criminals in the present, while their backstories are told in flashback. The hulking Doc, a comic book store owner and expert on...

Why not more?
"Alcatraz" COULD have worked and worked well...I think its only major flaw was that some of the episodes, particularly midseason, felt more like a crime procedural ("hey, another inmate appeared, let's go get 'im") than a surreal mystery. If only EACH ep had given us a bit of the plot points! It seemed like several went by with little more than a tease into the three keys, the '63s, and the sleazy Warden's master plan...and then in the season finale we had major points all dumped at once!

Still and all...this could have been MAGNIFICENT in a second season. I detest Fox for pulling it.

My question is, WHY can this story not continue in graphic novel form?? Hey you producers and writers, if you're reading this, FINISH THE STORY! I want more Senator BadA-- (aka Hauser -- as Sarah Jones so perfectly called him), more Doc, more Becca, more Warden! I wanna know how it ENDS! Bring in Joss Whedon, bring in any of the supremely talented writers and artists working in...

The Office: Secret Santa Pack

Avoid, IF YOU HAVE THE DVDS
What we have here are the Christmas episodes from seasons 2, 3, 5, and 6. All of which are on those seasons dvd sets. The extended secret Santa is on season 6 so it is not exclusive to this set. While these episodes are great and are usually the best part of the season there is no point in buying them if you already own the other dvd sets. I say even if you're a hardcore fan avoid buying it, however if you do not own any of the seasons and just want this for the xmas episodes it is worth picking up.

chrustmas in the office
Have enjoyed the office from the beginning. Holidays are especially great. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Have told my friends. two have asked to borrow it. good fun.

Excessive - Yes, Funny...Even More So
Yes this is totally a commercially crass way to make a buck by pacakging four Christmas episodes with no extra features on to one disk when they are available elsewhere. But as one reveiwer mentioned, you have the convenience of having all the episodes one disk and the luxury of just popping that disk in to watch during the season. The price is less than $8.00 and you can probably get it for less than that used. Plus the Christmas episodes are some of the funniest episodes the show has produced.

Horrible, overpriced bad joke
I knew I was paying $12 for one new 22 minute episode plus one I already owned and one I will soon own. That's not the problem. The problem is that they had the audacity to release what is, basically, a $15 MSRP single episode disc of a ****ing FLASHBACK episode where 70%+ of the footage is recycled. This is, literally, probably the biggest rip-off video release I have ever purchased of any kind. I love the rangers, and I'm glad it's back in Saban's hands (if for no other reason than that we should actually get all of the full seasons released, as opposed to when disney had it and they never released all of any season on any format), but this is a bad joke. There is NO way this should have been released by itself. The sad part is, Super Samurai's "complete season" box is missing the Halloween and Christmas episodes, so they are going to do the same thing again this year. Hopefully those aren't flashback episodes as well. If this is all you are missing of Samurai (assuming this...

Cute movie
This is a really cute movie. My six year-old son is obsessed with the Power Rangers and he LOVES this movie. It has a very nice message. There's no real "fighting" in it, just some remembered battles. And the two goofballs of the show are really nice to each other and have a happy ending for once.

350 Classic Cartoons

A mixed bag of public domain cartoons.
If you've bought any of the Mill Creek DVDs before then you should know that this 4 DVD set has a slight advantage over them mainly because they don't edit any of the cartoons or add their name to them. However, about 75% of the set consists of boring and mediocre cartoons (namely Mel-O-Toons, the Famous Studios Popeye cartoons, Clutch Cargo, and some weird cartoon series with a baby that turns into a superhero) and the rest being seen on other sets before it. There are also only 3 Looney Tunes on the whole set so if you're looking for those I'd recommend getting the Cartoon Craze or Toon Factory DVDs if you can find them. Another thing that brings this set down is the fact that 3 cartoons appear twice! (The Fresh Vegetable Mystery and 2 Mel-O-Toons) The title menu of the DVDs leaves a lot to be desired, also. There are a few upsides to the set, being that if you haven't obtained the Ub Iwerks DVDs there are quite a few of the ComiColor cartoons included, and if you love Betty Boop...

The Good, the Bad and the Public Domain
Quantity overwhelms quality in this mostly familiar collection of public domain cartoons. However, once you get past the made-for-TV junk such as "Clutch Cargo" and "Colonel Bleep," you will find six Fleischer Screen Songs from 1929-30, the Terrytoons classic "Billy Mouse's Akwakade" (1940) and Harman-Ising's underrated "To Spring" (1936). Occasional gems from Van Beuren, Ub Iwerks, Warner, Famous and Jam Handy emerge amid the dross. Loses a star for the ridiculous abridgement of the Popeye two-reeler "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp" (1939).

350 Classic Cartoons
My child was so happy to get this video of his favorite cartoons.
A great quality of print for hours of laughter and fun.
You won't be sorry when you buy this product. I was pleased.

Beehive Boogie

Its a tragedy they only made a limited number of episodes.
Such a well made kids show. Appropriate for a wide range of kids. My 1 year old loved it and still does at 2.5 years, though it will entertain at least to 5 years, maybe even to 7. Bright colors, excellent humor, well written stories, music and songs. None of these displays of extreme emotions or over the top behavior that so many other shows rely on nowadays. Its not a show where everyone is yelling and running the entire time under tense situations. Its laid back and funny. A little more advanced concepts but less educational instruction than Daniel Tiger. Less advanced than Dinosaur Train. Maybe the same speed emotionally as Sesame Street but funnier. Wish there was merchandise. We have searched the internet for purple gorillas but not luck. Please continue this great concept and make more episodes for us.

Sea Hunt TV Series (24 Hour Marathon) Starring Lloyd Bridges, Jeff Bridges, Beau Bridges

Fun TV relic, beautifully presented
SEA HUNT was the most successful of producer Ivan Tors "techno-ventures" produced for TV in the late '50s/early '60s. These were engaging, half-hour semi-documentaries about survival in challenging environments, whether under the sea (as with this series, which introduced always-enjoyable Lloyd Bridges to TV audiences), in the air (THE MAN AND THE CHALLENGE) or even in outer space (MEN INTO SPACE). Apart from the pleasures of the show itself, I'm delighted to report that the transfer quality of these episodes is nothing short of spectacular; they appear to be mastered directly from the 35mm negatives, and the odds are most viewers have never seen SEA HUNT looking quite this good. Although TGG has announced season-by-season releases of the TV series in their "Marathon" program, this attractive box set provides an excellent value and might get the job done right now -- it contains over 60 episodes with the pilot and a good deal of Season One included. Highly recommended!

Worth the wait!
I pre-ordered this set when it was first announced and waited for it to be in stock and ready to ship. It was well worth the wait. The sound and picture quality are as good as any other DVD's that I've purchased. The box is oversized to accomodate four standard DVD cases, with two discs per DVD case. It's great to be able to watch Sea Hunt again!

Sea Hunt Marathon is excellent release
There is no other offering of Sea Hunt that matches the quality of this set - 24 Hour Marathon. Where it particularly shines is in the underwater photography where in other sets I have owned it come across murky because of poor reproduction. Lloyd Bridges was a fine dramatic actor and most of his career he played dramatic roles until the later part of his career. Good value, great quality, but clunky packaging. The set does breaks down into four standard slipcases for easier storage.

This early series intelligently incorporated science and technology into its plots. Good to see quality releases like this from the Golden Age of Television.

God's Eye [HD]

Superb Sophomore Effort!
I have seen 5 of the 13 total episodes slated for release. I'm glad that show wasn't cancelled and was renewed this season. Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, as Dr. Rosen and his team of ALPHAS investigate and track down Stanton Parish, the leader of "Red Flag:" a terrorist organization with a hidden agenda.

There are plenty of new surprises such as the introduction of new ALPHAS and character histories. For example, in episode 4, "When Push Comes to Shove," Nina's past is revealed and highlights how she used her gift to control others with dire consequences.

If you loved season 1, you gotta keep up with season 2!

OMG! love it!
*some nonspecific spoilers*
Normally cliffhanger endings piss me off but in this case I will make an exception. Loved it! Love the character developement on this show. Love that they brought back Summer Glau. Love that they have Sean Astin. Love that the girls get to be the ones who save the world with their minds instead of the boys with their guns. Love all the new questions that this episode brought up. I can't wait for the new season!

A Different Spin
The major reason I continue coming back to watch this show, week after week, is that it takes a new spin on superpowers. Take Gary for instance: he has a tremendously useful ability, but he's also autistic. Or Hicks, whose ability comes and goes with his confidence. They're normal people landed with extraordinary skills, and they deal with them as if we would. Not to say that other shows/series like X-Men or Heroes don't do this, but the way Alphas handles it makes it unique. Nearly every ability introduced has a very in-depth scientific explanation, and many of them seem entirely plausible! To me this creates a fresh spin to the superhero genre, and connects the extraordinary to our reality in a way much closer than other titles within the genre.

Basically: I love this show and hope others do too :D

Not Reliable
I want to make clear that I do LOVE the show, for all the drama and craziness. I watch it on my Kindle Fire and the quality is amazing. (I don't even notice I am not watching it on a huge TV Screen.)If you want something overly dramatic and something to escape to, this is it. The show gets 5 stars *****

WHAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IS AMAZON. When you buy the season pass, you are getting the past episodes to catch you up and then each additional episode after it has been aired on television. The problem with that arrangement is, sometimes you get them 24 hours after the original airing, or like this week, I have waited 3 days. Now this may be a Bravo/NBC issue, but they need to keep their word and keep up their end of the bargain. When the episode is available they are sure to charge my account for that episode right away, but they are not quick on having the product available.

WHERE IS THE LATEST EPISODE?!!!!! 6/19/2012
Where is the latest episode 6/19/2012?! You need to be consistent about the times you post episodes which should be in the early am! Come on! Bad service!

Where is the latest episode 10/ 15/ 2012
This service is terrible. Most times episodes are post early around 4am - 6am the day after the episode airs but other times and this happens more frequently than it should, episodes are posted very late! DAYS later even! Posting needs to be more consistent!

In The Heat of The Night TV Series (24 Hour Marathon Collection) Gift Box: Carroll O'Connor

Random Episode Selection?
Updated 11/2/2012 - Finally received my set today. And honestly, still can't say figure out why these episodes. Yeah, some are pivotal episodes (critically acclaimed?), but others?

Anyhoo, what you get is a something of a box set. One big decorative box inside of which are 4 "volumes", each having 2 discs of 4 episodes.
Volume 1: Season 2, 8 episodes
Volume 2: Season 3, 8 episodes
Volume 3: Season 4, 4 episodes, Season 5, 4 episodes
Volume 4: Season 6, 4 episodes, Season 7, 4 episodes

This distribution of episode makes it seem even more unlikely that we'll get full season.

I grew up watching this show and have been waiting a long time for this to come out on DVD. I Had the biggest crush on Bubba (Alan Autry) and really was looking forward to buying "his" episodes. Some of them are here, but just a couple. Ok. Very disappointing.

But I'd love to know what went into choosing these particular episodes. Granted, it's been...

The Civilian Contribution
This series is about the exploits of the underground resistance against the Germans occupying France during WWII. It dramatically recounts how civilian men and women were trained by the British and sent to France as spies to assist the French Resistance forces. These recruits were drawn from British and foreign nationals who could pass themselves off as French locals and report covertly back to England information that would help the Allied war effort.
Most were sent to France after a short, intensive training program. This would inevitably produce graduates who didn't have time to eliminate their personal flaws and these flaws would sometimes place them in great danger. That allows us to relate to the characters we meet, given their rudimentary training.

The series follows characters that weave in and out of contact with each other throughout most of the series. Some are captured by the Germans, some escape; some meet back in England and then return to France. Their...

Wilson, Brian - Songwriter: 1969-1982

Great followup to "1962-69" DVD with lots of insightful interviews. A MUST for all Wilson fans!
The UK-based Chrome Dreams DVD label (distributed in the US by MVD) has really grown in quality over the year. Their earlier productions had just a few music journalists and no real music of the artist on them. They were just "OK" but beginning with the predecessor to this DVD "Brian Wilson - Songwriter 1962-69" things really improved and I raved about it to every Wilson or Beach Boy fan. This one picks up where that volume ended and spends much of its time on the post Pet Sounds period, especially the Warner Reprise years. The commentators include Bruce Johnson and Mark Volman plus a bunch of Wilson biographers as well as their early years Manager and their recording engineer. All are entertaining to listen to. My favorite (but this is subjective) is music professor Philip Lambert who sits at a piano and demonstrates his comments on Wilson's composition elements. There is a lot of vintage footage though you do have to realize that some is silent because of copyright issues. But...

Brian in the 70s
Firstly it is worth pointing out that this film is the sequel to the excellent Brian Wilson - Songwriter: 1962-1969, which if you haven't seen I would highly recommend, examining Brian's output throughout the `Surf Band' period, the recording of Pet Sounds and the abortive Smile sessions.

This film picks up the story where the first part left off, following Brian's breakdown and the recording of `20/20'. Over the course of the next two hours, the documentary covers in some depth the recording of each Beach Boys album throughout the 70s.

A wide range of excellent contributors are on hand to explain events, including Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, their manager Fred Vail and friends of Brian and fellow L.A. scenesters Danny Hutton of Three Dog Night and Mark Volman of The Turtles. Behind-the-scenes studio perspectives come from a number of different producers, engineers and session musicians who worked on the albums. We also hear from a host of Brian Wilson biographers,...

Do It Again
As I write this, there are six reviews of this DVD and each of them give the disc 5-stars. I hate to be the odd man out, but I'd probably give it 3.5. Since you can't do half stars on Amazon, I bumped it up to 4 because I love Brian. An issue I have with the documentary is that it is more about Brian and his mental state than it is about him being a songwriter, which is in the title of the feature. Only about 44-minutes in does Philip Lambert start to analyze "This Whole World" musically. He also does good pieces on "Do It Again" and "Blueberry Hill" which were left out and put in the bonus section. Bruce Johnston is only in it a couple times, unlike part 1. Peter Ames Carlin and Domenic Priore do the majority of the commenting. (Peter's book, "Catch a Wave," should not be missed).

One reason I was disappointed in the first installment, was that while the title said 1962-1969, the four post-SMiLE 60s albums were barely touched upon. When I saw this DVD was coming...

Stryper - Live In Indonesia At Java Rockin' Land

"Stryper" kickin' Heavy Metal!
Let me begin by saying I just received my DVD today. I finished watching it and I am 100% satisfied! I have been a "Stryper" fan faithfully since their EP release "Yellow and Black Attack" in 1984. I have seen them when they where huge and also later and have never ever been let down. These guys just plain throw down and always have! This DVD sounds great! Has a real good mix for the sound. I thought I would miss the 5.1 Surround Sound but it sounded so good I can't complain. The live footage is shot very good and covers all members unlike alot of other videos I have seen by other bands. "Stryper" has always been incredible musicians as well as people and CAN HOLD UP TO ANY BAND ANY TIME. "Michael Sweet" and "Oz Fox" are simply one of the best guitar duo's you will ever see or hear. It is awesome having "Tim Gaines" back in the band after the short stint without him because he is an amazing bass player and singer. "Robert Sweet" of coarse is one of the coolest drummers ever and is...

Good Show
I am a huge Stryper fan, and can accurately assess the band's performance. This is a good performance. Missing some of the little things, but nothing large enough to ruin the show. If you are a die hard fan, than don't hesitate adding this to your collection. If you are just getting into Stryper, than I would suggest that you order the Stryper: Greatest Hits - Live in Puerto Rico. That is a five star show, this one is a four star show.

69 minutes of classics
Hair metal, the once heralded king of the late 1980s and the butt of many jokes in the post-Nevermind 1990s, has some of the most rabid fans in the world. Over the past couple of decades, bands that once reigned the rock radio airwaves have been making a comeback, fighting the stereotypes and releasing new music. Religious rockers Stryper, however, may have been one of the last groups people expected to reunite. Singer Michael Sweet enjoyed some success as a solo artist and other band members found other projects, but a few years ago Stryper, whose name is a reference to Isaiah 53:5, decided to take the stage together once again.

With Live in Indonesia at the Java Rockin' Land, fans have the opportunity to relive the glory days of the yellow-and-black attack (sans the spandex). Brothers Michael and Robert Sweet, Oz Fox, and Timothy Gaines blast through 69 minutes of classic Stryper material, from the big hit "Honestly" to the fan favorites "The Rock That Makes Me Roll" and...

The Ernie Kovacs Collection, Vol. 2

Saved from being erased, this 2nd set of Kovacs material will show you where Letterman Stewart, SNL and even Johnny Carson learn
In 2011 there was great joy among fans of the late comedian/actor/writer Ernie Kovacs when the first volume of ultra rare Kovacs material was released by Shout Factory. The volume garnered many five-star reviews (including mine here on Amazon) and introduced a whole new generation (actually TWO generations, since Kovacs died in 1962 and his name had all but been forgotten - except by those of us who grew up watching him on TV.)

We were told that there was more material "in the vaults" - meaning that it was held by Kovacs widow - Edie Adams - who bought all the original video tapes and kinescopes from the networks when they were ready to erase the tapes and re-use them. The time has come and we now have Volume Two, a somewhat smaller set (just three DVDs this time) but there is still a lot of VERY funny material.

But for those new to Kovacs, let me provide some background:

Long before Monty Python, Saturday Night Live, and David Letterman's late night...

MORE ERNIE! Not as Good a Starting Point as Set 1 but a Welcomed Treat
This is the 3rd Ernie Kovacs release from Shout Factory the others being the first lengthy set and a single dvd containing 5 of his ABC specials. This set is less enjoyable than the first because the scope of Kovacs' work is limited. The first set chronologically covers his afternoon show filmed in Philadelphia to his ABC Specials shot in California. That set offers a little of everything that led to where Ernie was going within the TV medium.

This set, while enjoyable feels more like a collection of material omitted from the first set so to keep the price down for the consumer. This isn't a complaint, I definitely recommend purchasing this set AFTER getting the first set, but does feel like the case.

I first became aware of these half hour morning shows via Comdey Central reruns back when the channel didn't have the budget to run their own programs. I became an immediate fan of his offbeat humor and even the liberal amount of interaction he has with his studio...

MORE COMEDY CLASSICS!!
Once again, an excellent package, though containing less material than the 1st collection. Helping immensely is the fact that it was obviously a labor of love (literally, for the late Edie Adams), and the actual content is of course just as zany and brilliant. Make a present of these collections soon and spread the laughter!!

Spirit Hunger: A DVD Study: Filling Our Deep Longing to Connect with God

Spirit Hunger
This book and study captivated and awakened me from religion to a personal relationship. My passion and desire to seek the Lord with all my will forever be changed.

Real Connection
Spirit Hunger: Filling Our Deep Longing to Connect with God

Spirit Hunger is a portrait of authentic, life-changing principles that call us to a deeper relationship with God. I found it to be a realistic view of everyday struggles- real insight, real answers. It is written from a place of true transparency by it's author.

Great, engaging study
The book, workbook, and DVD were a great package for our women's Bible study. It left us with challenging questions to wrestle with, real and vulnerable stories to learn from, and a constant pointing to pursuing Jesus. Geri's love for the Lord is contagious and her passion for women and fostering growth in their faith leaps off the pages. Great study- highly recommended!

AWESOME!
The animation, writing, music, and story are wonderful! This movie can easily become a holiday classic for any family (It has in ours!) I would DEFINATELY recomend this movie for any family.

a holiday favorite of mine...
this film is simple, but captures me over and over.
the story is not overtly complex, but it is just nice.
I like it.
it is gentle and simple- and good for the whole family.

and it is like an hour long!

it doesn't really teach anything specific, except maybe not to be grumpy at the holidays, and to always believe.. but either way, it is just nice.

OH, and there are bonus episodes on the disc- including the OTHER christmas episode + more.
====which makes it TOTALLY worth purchasing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Classic
This movie is a true favorite at our house. It is a charming story and sure to be a Franklin tale you will watch again and again.

Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Early Cases

Poirot: Agatha Christie, David Suchet CLASSICS, always GOOD
Remastered-Orig UK order Poirot Early Cases set is 45 mysteries solved by Poirot, the masterful Belgian `little gray cell' man who forever out-sleuths Scotland Yard. David Suchet is Poirot, enough said. It's a repackaging for the advantage of those who have not purchased them singly. Advanced picture quality, and I am told by my Blu-ray user friends, the best Poirot yet. All Agatha Christie stories make it fantastic, but Suchet makes the film adaptations soar to new heights. Humor, fantastic scenery & costuming appear. Poirot stories began in 1920 and the fictional character was granted a 1975 NYTimes front page obit.
Episodes are loaded with guest stars as well as regular recurring characters such as CI Japp (Philip Jackson), Hastings (Hugh Fraser) Poirot's right-hand, Miss Lemon (Pauline Moran).

SUBTITLES available for all 45 episodes. Airing began in1992. Masterpiece Mystery! It is CLASSIC UK sleuth TV, as applauded as the original books.

A Beautiful Set Worthy of a Beautiful Show
I got into Poirot when I started to borrow them from the local library. I think the first one I ever saw was Murder on the Links, which was fine but I did not think too much of it, it was just something to watch for free that was somewhat amusing. However, as I continued to borrow them and watch them I began to fall in love with the show and the characters. I won't go into much detail about who's who and why they are so wonderful because if you are considering buying this collection you already know all that.

It was not long before I knew that I had to own every bit of David Suchet's Poirot but while I was ready to do the work to find out which episodes are in which collection, I was not ready to shell out a bunch of money to buy them individually. The release of Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Early Cases is a gift from above. In the order of the original U.K. broadcast, it collects the first 6 series in 6 individual cases (with 3 DVDs in each case) in a lovely outer box...

This is the one to get if you like Poirot
I had some of these episodes on DVD and decided to get this complete version on Blu-Ray. I could not be more pleased with the picture quality, and it is great to have all the episodes in one set in original order. Donate all your old DVD versions to your local public library and buy this Blu-Ray version - you will love it.
